Implants
What are dental implants?
If you are missing a tooth, a dental implant is a titanium screw that is surgically placed in your jawbone, where it will serve as the roots of the missing tooth. Because the jawbone fuses around the titanium screw, the implants are very secure. To mimic the original tooth, a crown is placed over the screw.
Implants allow such a good replication of the original tooth; more often than not, they are the best solution to replace a missing tooth. We also use them to replace several missing teeth or a full dentition! Additionally, we use implants to secure dentures or bridges firmly in place and they can prevent the drifting of teeth; we use them to restore bite pattern and the quality of your smile.
Implants can be more expensive than other solutions. However, they offer a more natural appearance and feel almost the same as the original. They also have a very high success rate. Even if the crown needs replacing because of wear and tear, it’s not unusual for implants to last a lifetime!
Our On-Staff Periodontist
Urbanview Dental is fortunate to be among only a few clinics in downtown Toronto that have a periodontist on staff – Dr. Michael Landzberg. He comes here to our Urbanview location twice a week. Having access to Dr. Landzberg simplifies the referral process and gets patients in for their implants much faster – often within a week of the initial consultation.
If you need a dental implant, our Urbanview dentists will refer you to Dr. Landzberg. After the consultation, he will do the implant procedure returning you to your dentist for the crown placement.
